Great ideas are wonderful, but they make no difference when kept in a vacuum. Or as Kurt T. Weber, senior advisor at State Policy Network says, "You could be the smartest person in the world, but you'll get nowhere if you don't know the right people."

But how do you do this? The answer is simple: Craft your message well, network and communicate with people in the community, media and legislature, and do this on a regular schedule. Know your audience and speak to them in their language, using examples they relate to.
