Overview

From Milwaukee to Florida, Washington, DC to Arizona, much research has been undertaken on the effects of school choice. In a review of 27 studies spanning seven cities, "The Survey of School Choice Research" concludes, "A growing body of evidence suggests strongly that vouchers: improve academic performance, especially among African American students; increase parent satisfaction and involvement; and appear to have a positive impact on student achievement in public schools."

That survey is included in this section, along with a minute fraction of the research that is available. To access the greater world of research available on school choice-from tuition tax credits to charter schools, home schooling to private scholarship programs, simply do a web search.

If you prefer, start with a review of local research conducted by the think tank in your state. For many State Policy Institute (SPN) members, education reform and school choice are top priorities, if not the top organizational priority.
