Joseph "Joe" Weaver recently joined State Policy Network as its part-time technology guru. Weaver will assist member organizations with online marketing, search engine optimization, social networking and disaster avoidance. A native Coloradoan, he most recently worked for the Independence Institute.
An avid rock climber, Weaver includes "running, drinking and shooting" among his hobbies, "though not necessarily in that order, all while fighting for liberty." Weaver, "along with a few other renegades, started the Denver social group Liberty on the Rocks, a free-market alternative to drinking liberally."
Liberty on the Rocks was the birth place of the People's Press Collective, an informal entity that electronically covered the 2008 Democratic National Convention. Weaver addressed the Collective's media successes at the last SPN Annual Meeting. Refer to the September/October 2008 SPN News for background.
Weaver recounts, "From a young age I was interested in liberty because of my family's role in the school choice movement, which later lead me to study economics and political science at the University of Colorado in Boulder." Weaver has traveled in Europe and spent the summer of 2005 learning Arabic in the Middle East.
