In August, the SPN / IHS Koch Summer Fellows finished another successful summer interning at state-based think tanks. As part of their internships, they were interviewed on the radio, developed publication marketing plans, recorded radio commentaries, and wrote numerous letters-to-the-editor and op-ed pieces.
This joint effort is run in tandem with the Institute for Humane Studies' long-running, revered Washington, DC-centered internship program of similar name. In 2005, the SPN / IHS program placed three fellows at state-focused think tanks, five in 2006 and 14 fellows in 2007.
Before and after their on-site internships, the SPN / IHS fellows are brought to Washington, D.C. for week-long seminars. During the closing week, the state-based fellows take part in competitions with the D.C.-based Koch fellows. This summer, teams of state think tank interns took second place in the Policy Strategy Competition, third in Media Interviewing, and fourth in the Policy Presentation Competition. These are a few measurements that showcase the success of the competitive 2007 SPN / IHS Charles G. Koch Summer Fellow program.
