State Policy Network president Tracie Sharp was recently honored with the Grace Commission Legacy Award. Citizens Against Government Waste bestowed the award to Sharp for her "exemplary leadership as president of the State Policy Network" and her work "to promote fiscal responsibility and government accountability, helping to cut wasteful spending and protect taxpayers."
The Legacy Award was presented to Sharp on May 16 at CAGW's 2007 Awards Dinner and Gala in Washington, D.C. She has served at the helm of SPN since 2000.
The host of MSNBC's Tucker and Gala Master of Ceremonies, Tucker Carlson remarked, "CAGW's co-founder, Peter Grace, certainly had someone like Tracie Sharp in mind when he wrote in his 1984 book, Burning Money,'the only way we'll get government running right, running smoothly and efficiently at minimum cost, is by public pressure from the grass roots level.'"
Citizens Against Government Waste was founded in 1984 by the late industrialist J. Peter Grace and syndicated columnist Jack Anderson. CAGW is the legacy of President Reagan's Private Sector Survey on Cost Control, commonly known as the Grace Commission, of which J. Peter Grace served as chairman. The Grace Commission Legacy Award recognizes those in government, media and the private sector who have helped CAGW advance its mission to promote their late founders' and President Reagan's vision of a smaller, more efficient government.
