Position Available: Database Administrator

State Policy Network (SPN) seeks a Database Administrator to support our ambitious direct mail program and development team in our congenial, fast-growing office in Arlington, Virginia. This is a permanent, part-time, paid position (15 to 25 hours per week, on average).

The Database Administrator will:

  • Ensure the database's accuracy and hygiene for all data regarding donors, members and coalition partners, making frequent updates whenever necessary
  • Enter all donations received by SPN through our direct mail, major gifts and other fundraising programs into the database
  • Research contacts at members and other coalition partners to ensure accurate, complete records
  • Generate and mail thank-you letters and tax-deduction receipts to donors
  • Work with our finance team to process and deposit contributions by check, cash, credit card and wire transfer
  • Oversee the filing system for all donor records

The ideal candidate will have the following attributes:

  • Strong organizational and multitasking abilities
  • Commitment to stay in this position long term
  • Deep understanding of and commitment to the principles of limited government, free enterprise and personal responsibility
  • Ability and willingness to perform accurate data entry for long stretches of time
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office software, particularly Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Experience with database administration (especially DonorPerfect or another fundraising database) a plus, but not required

Position Available: Coalitions Intern

State Policy Network seeks a Coalitions Intern to assist the coalitions and outreach team in our friendly, fast-growing office in Arlington, Virginia.  This position is ideal for a passionate college student or recent grad that is looking to learn more about external relations, free market policy and the state-based think tank network.

The ideal candidate will be available 20-40 hours a week.  The position is available immediately and will last for the Spring 2012 semester, with possibility for extension into summer.  This is a paid position.

The Coalitions Intern will focus on:

  • Tracking policy developments in the states
  • Updating database and other list
  • Assisting the Coalitions team with special projects
  • Representing SPN at meetings
  • Event planning assistance
  • Administrative tasks and other projects as needed

The ideal candidate will have the following attributes:

  • Entrepreneurial spirit and the ability to be a self-starter
  • Detail-oriented with a penchant for accuracy
  • Team player with upbeat personality
  • Flexible and eager to learn with a strong work ethic
  • Highly organized
  • Preference for a candidate with database and some outreach experience
  • Good writing and communication skills
  • Interest in freedom and free market policy
